We are all about plants!

The Planting Consultancy is a Landscape Design Studio based in Cork City. We offer many routes to achieving a beautiful sustainable garden design or public green space: from once-off consultations to explore garden design ideas, planting plans, plans for planning permission submissions and full landscape designs.

Our aim is to put plants at the centre of landscape design and bring a focus back to natural beauty, nature supporting plants with excellent taste at the core of the design.

These landscape design services can be delivered on-site or remotely.

CAROL O'SULLIVAN

The Planting Consultancy was founded by me, Carol O’Sullivan, an experienced Horticulturist and Landscape Designer.

I grew up in Cork City and always had a passion for the natural world, studying Geography in UCC and going on to complete a MSc (Agr.) in Environmental Resource Management in UCD. An urge to travel and work abroad led me to work in landscaping in the USA and on returning to Ireland I decided to study Horticulture, qualifying in 2003 from the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland. Horticulture can bring you to many places and l have worked in the National Botanic Garden of Wales and in ‘Illnacullin’, Garinish Island (OPW) and with many private clients in Ireland.

With a keen interest in the therapeutic benefits of gardening, l also taught horticulture in the disability training sector and went on to develop this interest further and obtained an M.A. in Disability Studies from the University of Leeds. I continued to teach in the rehabilitative training sector for many years, with a particular focus on mental health recovery.

I really believe in the positive impact that thoughtful planting can bring to individuals and our environment. This has brought me back to work once again with plants on a professional basis. It is my unique experience that influences my approach to planting and landscape design.
