THE SENSORY GARDEN

This project is part of my voluntary work. I firmly believe in the importance of public green spaces that can be enjoyed by anyone and intend to continue to share my knowledge within my community and beyond as part of my practice.

The brief was to design a Sensory Garden that would sit within the Ballinlough Community Garden (established in 2022) and would provide a haven for anyone seeking a place to experience calm, relaxation and a sense of belonging.

The design places an emphasis on perennials, ornamental grasses, herbs, fruit trees and fruiting shrubs. The garden is a resource for wildlife, residents, local schools and for horticultural and ecological education as it is managed from an ecological horticulture perspective.

The Sensory Garden was planted in April of 2023, has matured beautifully since and can be visited anytime.
